LATER in his career, the wealthy carpenter Agustus Beauregard found that his plans for building his retirement home were BLOCKed by local building inspectors. It turns out that the PILONs he offered them years ago for settling their accounts were MOLDY chunks of cheese, and they had vowed revenge for what they considered a heinous act. This would become known throughout the South as Beauregard’s FOLLY.
