The train ride into the African jungle was going smoothly, Rico Montana thought to himself. A little too smoothly. He and his assistant, Millie Saratoga, had boarded the train in the GREATer Namibia area and were having a drink in the train’s DINER car when the chief steward slid the rear door open and walked hurriedly toward the duo, holding a folded piece of paper.
”Mr. Montana, a telegram has just arrived for you, but I’m afraid the words on the page don’t make any sense.” Montana nodded and thanked the man, and waved him away as he began to decipher the coded message.
To the untrained eye, telegrams from the League of Explorers looked like a random assortment of numbers and letters, but Montana knew that each letter and number actually represented either a dot or dash from MORSE code. Montana finished reading, furrowed his brow, and began ripping the paper into tiny pieces.
“There’s been a change of plan,” Montana said to Millie.
“Is something wrong in the jungle?” Millie asked, with twinges of concern in her voice.
“It’s WORSE than that, Mill.” Montana replied. “There’s something wrong right here on this very train.”
